Determining the Version Level of Exabyte EXB-10i Units

It is necessary to determine the version level of the microcode used in an Exabyte EXB-10i unit to determine which communication program to use when configuring the device. To determine this, a utility has been made available which performs raw device communication with the stacker unit. The utility name is exbcomm and it take a single argument, which is the serial device to which the Exabyte unit is connected. This application will bring up two windows. One is for user input to the stacker unit:
and the other contains curses output of responses from the stacker unit:
If no output appears in the EXB-10 CHS window upon startup, focus the keyboard input on the Command Input: text input field of the exbcomm window and hit the Return key. If you still receive no menu output on the EXB-10 CHS window, hit the buttons labelled SEL and INCR on the right side of the front panel of the stacker unit. This should reset the stacker unit and give you the menu shown in the image above.
