NAME
pr3d - 3D data geometry
SYNOPSIS
pr3d [ -Nntap ] [ -Ootap ] [ -C ] [ -Gocell ] [ -dry ] [ -?
]
DESCRIPTION
pr3d takes observer information about the shooting parame-
ters and indexes the data. This method of prepping is pre-
ferred since the indexing is correct for other USP down-
stream processes. For marine data with a UKOA-type nav tape
program prepr3d may be used to build the input parameter
file for pr3d.
NOTE 1: this version incorporates some program changes that
are not noted in the last version of the SIS "yellow book"
of input formats. The major thing to be aware of is that
the Group Index field on the 1GRUP cards, and the Record
Number fields on the 1SORC, nSPRD, OMIT, and NVRT cards have
been expanded to 10 columns (cc71-80). This means you must
not put the Job Number in any of these cards (cc69-75). The
1PR3D card is the only one that has a field for the Job
Number. The other change is the addition of 5SPRD cards for
marine data. Use the 1,2,3 and 4SPRD cards for land data.
The 5SPRD cards accomodate the larger GI field.
NOTE 2: this version allows an optional output USP format-
ted file that can be input to xsd to visually plot the dis-
tribution of traces per cell. This dataset is standard USP
format, with standard trace headers. The number of records
is always 1; the number of traces is equal to the number of
line indexes (max.LI-min.LI+1); the number of samples is
equal to the number of depth indexes (max.DI-min.DI+1). The
"amplitude" at each sample contains the number of traces
corresponding to the cell at the given relative LI (trace
number) and relative DI (sample number).
pr3d gets its parameter information from a file containing
the card images defined below.
Command Line Parameters
-Nntap
Enter the USP formatted input data set name or file
immediately after typing -N. This output file is not
required when piping into the process, e.g. coming from
tape.
-Ootap
Enter the USP formatted output data set name or file
immediately after typing -O. This output file is not
required when piping the output to another process.
The output data set also requires the full path name
(see above).
-Ccardin
Enter the parameter data set name or card file immedi-
ately after typing -C. This file contains the follow-
ing card images (see SIS documentation):
1PR3D : required
2PR3D : required
3PR3D : required if CDP indexing
4PR3D : required if CDP indexing
1FLDH : optional
1GRUP : required
1SORC : required
nSPRD : required for land data
("n" is a value of "1" through "4")
5SPRD : required for marine data
OMIT : optional
NVRT : optional
-Gocell
Enter, immediately after typing -G, the dataset name
for a USP formatted data file to contain the number of
traces per cell. This output file is optional; the
output dataset requires the full path name. This
option is also valid with the '-dry' command argument
as a check of input parameters.
-dry Enter the command line argument '-dry' to check the
card image parameters. This runs without input/output
datasets to facilitate parameter checking. There are 4
special parameters that must be included on the 1PR3D
card.
-? Enter the command line argument '-?' to get online
help. The program terminates after the help screen is
printed.

numbers decrease as the trace numbers increase. the
end of a segment is assumed to be either one trace
less than the next specified trace number or, if
this is the last segment defined for a record, it is
assumed to be the last trace of that record. the value
entered in this field cannot be greater than the largest
GI number entered in cc71-80 of the last 1GRUP card
submitted.

*******These cards are REQUIRED for MARINE data*******
5SPRD cards used to define the spread configuration
for each source point. at least one 5SPRD card is
REQUIRED for each record on the input dataset. Up
to six segments can be defined per card, and a
maximum of 86 cards is allowed per record. the
5SPRD card(s) submitted for a given record must
immediately follow the 1SORC card associated with
that record.
1-5 5SPRD (REQUIRED) "5" in column 1 indicates this
is MARINE data.
11-70 START OF SPREAD SEGMENTS
the entries in these fields are used to define the
spread segments. if a trace number field is completed,
the associated group index is required.
11-20 trace number (REQUIRED)
31-40 these entries specify the lowest trace numbers recorded
51-60 for the segment being defined and are REQUIRED. a "1"
must be entered in cc20 of this field on the first 5SPRD
card submitted for a given record. successive entries
for trace numbers on this card and subsequent 5SPRD
cards for the record must be ascending and cannot exceed
the number of traces per record on the input dataset.
21-30 group index number (REQUIRED)
41-50 these entries specify the GI numbers to be assigned to
61-70 the traces entered in the preceding trace number field.
the values entered in this field cannot be greater than
the largest GI number entered in cc71-80 of the last
1GRUP card submitted.
NOTE:
if this entry is negative, the group indexes are
assumed to decrease with increasing trace number.
71-80 record number (REQUIRED)
this entry specified the record index(RI) number of the
record to which the parameters specified on this card
apply. the value entered in this field must correspond
to the RI number entered in cc71-80 of the associated

associated with the record being editted.
as many cards as needed may be input and can
be intermixed within a single source point.
1-4 OMIT (REQUIRED when traces are to be omitted)
no data manipulation is done using the OMIT card;
only Trace Header Halfword 125(StaCor) is set to
30000 (dead trace flag).
1-4 NVRT (REQUIRED when traces are to be inverted)
the data samples are multiplied by negative one for
those traces specified on the NVRT card, and the
modified data samples are written to the output
dataset.
6-65 TRACE NUMBERS
6-10 these entries specify the traces to be edited on the
11-15 record entered in cc71-80 of this card. if these entries
16-20 are positive, only that trace will be omitted/inverted.
21-25 a negative trace number indicates that all traces from the
26-30 last specified trace number through this trace number are
31-35 to be omitted/inverted. if the first entry(cc6-10) of the
36-40 first OMIT or NVRT card is negative, the "last
41-45 specified trace number" is considered to be one.
46-50
51-55 NOTE:
56-60 since trace numbers may be entered in any order,
61-65 the user should exercise caution when using
negative trace numbers (i.e., cc6-10 = 10,
cc11-15 = -5 is meaningless).
71-80 record number (REQUIRED)
this entry specifies the record index number of the
record to which the parameters specified on this card
apply and is REQUIRED. the value entered in this
field must correspond to the record number entered
in cc71-80 of the associated set of 1SORC/SPRD cards.

SUMMARY
Card images input to PR3D are submitted in the following
sequence: historical and job-constant information on the
1PR3D and 2PR3D cards, optional areal grid information on
the 3PR3d and 4PR3D cards, optional 1FLDH cards, a 1GRUP
card for each seismometer-group station recorded curing the
survey (cards for missing GI numbers are interpolated), and
a set of 1SORC, SPRD and optional OMIT or NVRT cards for
each source point initiated during the survey. The 1GRUP
cards define all seismometer-group stations utilized during
the survey, the 1SORC cards define all source points ini-
tiated during the survey, and the set of SPRD cards associ-
ated with each 1SORC card defines which seismometer-group
stations were recorded for that particular source point.
