NAME
taumute - module to apply muting to tau-p traces
SYNOPSIS
taumute [ -Nntap ] [ -Ootap ] [ -nsns ] [ -nene ] [ -rsirs ]
[ -reire ] [ -v1vel1 ] [ -v2vel2 ] [ -tnramp ] [ -M ] [ -V ]
[ -? ]
DESCRIPTION
taumute can be used to remove unwanted noise found in the
forward tau-p transformed record at ray parameters above
those of legitimate reflectors. Two velocities (one shal-
low; one deep) are used to compute a ray parameter-time
dependent mute line over the record. Generally, the shallow
velocity is the reciprocal of the largest ray parameter used
in the transform, although this need not necessarily be the
case. The shape of the curve is p*v(i)=1, where p refers to
the ray parameter and v(i) are the velocities for each time
sample.
Note: the effect of this muting can be dramatic.
taumute gets processing controls from the command line.
Reasonable defaults are setup. In addition, if no input
file name is given, the binary trace data are expected to be
on the standard input.
Command line arguments
-N ntap
Enter the full path of the file containing the data
set. If not specified, input is expected to be stan-
dard input. If standard input is not specified and
there is no input, e.g., program run in background,
expect a termination. (default standard input )
-O otap
Enter the full path of the output file. If not speci-
fied, output is expected to be standard output.
(default standard output )
-ns ns
First trace in record to process (default = 1 )
-ne ne
Last trace in record to process (default = all )
-rs irs
First record to process (default = 1 )
-re ire
Last record to process (default = all )
-v1 vel1
Enter shallow reference velocity in ft or m/s. One
choice is the reciprocal of the largest ray parameter
used in the forward tau-p transform. Setting this
value too high will result in too much of the low ray
parameter data being muted. (default= none )
-v2 vel2
Enter deep reference velocity in ft or m/s. The curve
is relatively insensitive to this value but it's always
better to give a good guess, maybe the largest stacking
velocity. (default = vel1 )
-t nramp
Enter the length on the linear mute taper (ms). This
avoids sharply zeroing the data. (default = 20 ms)
-M Input data was generated by MBS program slnt
-V Verbose mode. List command line and lineheader input
parameters.
-? Query mode. With this flag, taumute will give a
description of the command line arguments and stop the
program.
