Condition

Some vehicles with composite rocker covers may experience an engine oil leak at either the left or right rocker cover.

Correction

Several conditions may contribute to component interactions. To reduce system sensitivity, a new rocker cover has been designed to address a variety of potential causes simultaneously. The original rocker cover was produced from a composite material; the new cover will be aluminum. In the interest of customer satisfaction and the desire to maintain a uniform underhood appearance, the aluminum rocker covers should be installed in pairs. The composite rocker will no longer be available from GMSPO. Before any repair is made, follow normal diagnostics as outlined in the appropriate vehicle Service Manual, Section 6A. If the oil leak is determined to be from the composite rocker cover, follow the service repair procedure as outlined in Section 6A5 of the Service Manual. Remember to check for oil leaks after the repair is made.
